Great Britain’s Paula Radcliffe failed to retain her New York Marathon title, as she finished a commendable 4th after struggling late on to finish the race.
Radcliffe was visibly in pain towards the end and finished the marathon clutching the back of her left leg.
The World record-holder explained afterwards how she was suffering from tendinitis in the back of her leg, as Ethiopia’s Derartu Tulu, 37, won gold, beating off stiff competition from Russia’s Ludmila Petrova, who finished runner-up for the second consecutive year.
